A UCCE + CVP environment would be very difficult to replicate in a home lab. In addition to CUCM, you'd need at least a Progger (Logger, Router, Peripheral Gateway), CVP server, CUSP module, and 29xx router. That'll set you back quite a bit.

Best chance would be to get UC experience and then transition into UCCE from there. However, for me, I found that I enjoyed UC more than UCCE/CVP.

To each his own. ;)

I remember when it was just Jabber. We deployed it way back in 04 at the call center I was working at the then. Oh the days of OTRS, Asterix, and open-source server enviornments.

Nice write up Matthew! We've been using UCCE/CVP with SIP since late 2008 and it works great. CUSP didn't exist when we implemented so we use CUPS as our SIP Proxy and it works fine. UCCE is very powerful as is CVP -- as long as you don't forget that CVP doesn't support Rel1XX (don't as me how I know this). Remember that tidbit if you ever route inbound contact center calls via SIP Trunks & CUBE. :)

One other thing I will share. Our CVP development teams know their VXML Applications really well, but when it comes to the call server portion of CVP, they don't really understand it well. If you support any of the contact center infrastructure, it's worth your time to really understand how at least this component of CVP works. Make sure you know how to pull and read the CVP Callserver logs, etc and you'll be ahead of most folks already!
